RecyClass paves the way for plastic circularity with enhanced Recyclability Methodology

A new version of the Recyclability Methodology1 has been published in anticipation of upcoming legislative changes. This update ensures continuous support for the plastic value chain in the transition towards circularity.
The recyclability classification system of the RecyClass methodology, originally composed of six classes, will now be streamlined to three, with classes D, E, and F being removed and classified as ‘non-recyclable’.
Additionally, the recyclable plastic content thresholds have been adapted to the preliminary thresholds put forward by the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)2. The above-mentioned revisions have also been incorporated into the RecyClass Audit Scheme3 for plastic packaging recyclability.
‘Over the past ten years, RecyClass has been offering reliable and industry-relevant tools and certifications to advance plastic circularity. With this update, we are ensuring further optimisation of the Methodology in light of the new Regulation’ said Paolo Glerean, Chairman of RecyClass.
By redefining its methodology, RecyClass remains committed to maintaining a science-based and robust framework that supports industry players in meeting the new legislative targets and continuing to drive the transition towards circular plastics.
